Sewing Courses

Women Sewing class This course teaches the basic sewing techniques through to advanced garment making.course includes embroider, cross-stitch, bargello, crazy quiliting, crewl, cloth doll making, doll clothes, crochet, knitting, quiliting, weaving, needlepoint, latch hook, rag rugs, stuffed toy animals, teddy bears, mintures, doll houses, crafts, etc.

Faith Leader Course

NiaceIn 2007/08 NIACE, the UK?s leading non-governmental adult learning charity, was funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills and the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) to develop and pilot a qualification for faith leaders, workers and volunteers. The overall aim of the programme was to develop the communication, representation, safeguarding and other skills of faith leaders, workers and volunteers so that they could operate more effectively and confidently within their own communities.[more ]

ESOL & IT

ESOL class as a second language (ESOL) and Information Technology (IT) are essential courses for women in order to improve their day to day social interaction. It is also a Home Office requirement to acquire an Entry Level 2 qualification in English in order to gain British Citizenship. This course will be the first step. In addition you will have the opportunity to enhance your IT skills.

Employment opportunities for women

We also offer Information, Advice and Guidance for women who may want to obtain employment or would like to progress onto additional learning and training opportunities.

Childrens Education

Education is a key element for the Pakistani Community. The recent Census report stated that the Pakistani community are the low achievers in educational terms.

Employment and education Over 50% of the community who are over 35 do not have a level 1 qualification. The literacy and numeracy levels are very low.

Study support sessions are held with a number of schools across the city. The aim of these support session is to assist the pupils with their curriculum to enable them to acquire better grades. It has proved popular with schools and the children. Graduates and under graduates are recruited to work with the pupils and they are seen as role models. These tutors provide a mentoring and supporting role.

During the summer PMC ran a summer school. Over 100 children attended and it is hoped to run a similar programme over Christmas.
